Lawrence Cheung, MD Scholarship for Public Health and Advocacy - A Word of Thanks from Dr. Angela Wong

Dear friends and family  (I say family with intention as those of you who worked alongside of him in public health were in fact, his second “family.”),

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping to make the Lawrence Cheung, MD Scholarship for Public Health and Advocacy a reality.  I understand that with your help and support, we have reached full funding for this endowed scholarship, and can begin distributing scholarships next year to a talented 3rd or 4th year medical student who has exhibited a passion for the path that you have all chosen - to leverage your incredible knowledge and experience to not only help the patients you care for daily, but to improve the health of our patients on a wider scale through public health advocacy.

Two years ago, I attended this AMA conference with Lawrence.  Though he was quite ill at the time and could not travel alone, he was determined to come in person to this meeting and continue to do this work that was so near and close to his heart.  His greatest wish was to continue his legacy in public health.  Thank you for  your tireless work, even more important in the current political climate and times.  Thank you for helping to support a future generation of public health advocates through helping to fund this scholarship.

With deep appreciation,

Angela Wong, MD
